In this post, I am sharing with you what to do when your mobile phone has been lost or stolen. The government of India has the correct rules and a web system to follow the guidelines for doing specific tasks when the mobile phone is lost.

There are some procedures you have to do when the mobile is stolen like putting the details in the telecommunication portal, complaining to the police, etc. Fortunately, we can do this without leaving our homes. Use the computer or mobile phone of your family member or a friend to register a complaint, block the SIM, etc.

Register a complaint at your police station

You can either visit the nearest police station directly or register a complaint through the official mobile app. In some states in India, there is a dedicated mobile application is available to register a complaint.

For example, in my state Kerala, the Government has launched an application called Pol-app. Download the app from any other mobile and register a complaint.

If you directly visit the police station, write a complaint in the correct format by including the details such as the mobile number, mobile brand, lost place, etc

Whatever method you choose, after filing the complaint, you’ll get a complaint number from the police station, additionally, a copy of the complaint will be given to you. Scan the hard copy and get a soft copy. we need the document to upload it to the CEIR website to block the mobile phone.

Submit the details at the central equipment Identity register (CEIR)

This is the first thing you need to do when your mobile is stolen. CEIR is the registry for blocking lost devices under the government of India. While putting the information on this website, your mobile will be blocked and no one cause it then.

Additionally, this will help you to trace the mobile and by a police complaint, you’ll get your mobile number. Once you have it, you can simply unblock it and use it further.

CEIR is the department under the telecommunication department, India, and will help you to block and trace electronic devices like mobile phones or IMEI-enabled tablet PCs, etc.

According to CEIR statistics, millions of mobiles are blocked, traced, and recovered after the system started. If the mobile is ON in the next few days after putting in the details, it can be simply recovered.

how do put the details at CEIR to block the stolen mobile?

First of all, visit to the CEIR official website at https://ceir.gov.in/Home/index.jsp

Click on the link labeled Block stolen/lost mobile.

You’ll redirected to a request page to block stolen or lost mobile.

Fill out the details in the form.

Two fields to enter the mobile number if your mobile contains dual sim cards. If one SIM is only in it, just put the mobile number in the first field.

Do you know the IMEI number?

If you know the IMEI, you can enter it on the next field, and if not, just leave it.

Select the mobile brand name from the drop-down menu. Click on the drop-down list and type the brand name, when it shows, just select it.

If you know the model number, put it in the next box. And if you have an invoice PDF file, upload it. No issue if you don’t have both of these details.

In the next step, you have to enter the lost information like

  • lost place
  • lost state
  • time/date
  • District
  • Your police station
  • The police complaint number
  • Upload the complaint copy, etc

Enter your details

Finally, you have to enter your details.

Since your mobile is missing and you are the complainer. In the field of the owner, enter your name. Then enter the residential address.

You have to upload your identity document. You can choose from the different allowed documents like your Aadhar card, PAN card, voter ID, Driving license, etc.

A scanned copy is needed to upload the document. Enet the details such as the identity number, your email address, etc. Then clear the captcha and provide any of the mobile numbers and receive the OTP.

Fill in the OTP field and accept the declaration. Then submit the details.

Get and notice your request ID

You’ll get a request ID to the E-mail address and the given mobile number in the form. You have to note it and keep it for further procedures.

Check the request status.

You can simply check the status of your request by entering the request ID on this page. Solve the captcha and know the status.

Get all the progress of the status like tracing the mobile, blocking, etc.

The Department of Telecommunication will help you to recover back your mobile phone with the help of the given details. You can trust that the mobile number and all the personal files on it will not be misused by anyone by following the above-mentioned steps.

What to do when you forget the request ID? Their homepage has it’s link to get the request ID again. But you need to keep the mobile number that you have used while registering the block information on the CEIR website. An OTP will get and you can get back the request ID again.

Recover the mobile

Once they trace the mobile, and if it has recovered, then your mobile will get back to you after a few days while completing the procedures at the police station. In most cases, you can collect the recovered mobile at the police station.

The next step is unblocking it to use it further.

You need the request ID, earlier used mobile number to block the device, then select the reason for unblocking, etc through this page, and get the OTP and unblock your device.

Use your device like how you did before. You’ll never lose access to any files, contacts, applications, settings, etc.
