Typically RED signal indicates that some wrong thing has gone, especially in the case of a router or modem. If you are getting RED light blinking on your small JioFi wireless modem, here is a quick guide to help you to fix it.
The main cause of the issue is network coverage. Although Jio has good network coverage throughout the country, in some cases, the signal strength may be lower due to the temporary issue.
Anyway, try the following troubleshooting tips.
Place the JioFi router in a place where network coverage is good
As the router is working based on the mobile network coverage, your device should be kept in a place having good signal strength. You can move the Jiofi router to another place at home and check the red blinking is turning into a solid Greenlight.
We can identify the area at our home having good signal strength with the help of a mobile that has a Jio SIM inserted into it.
See the signal status bar at the top right corner of the mobile and confirm that the signal strength is good. Having 5 or 6 bars indicates a strong signal.
Just move the Jiofi to the spot.
There are 4 indications to show signal strength.
- RED – No or terrible signal
- BLUE – Medium signal strength
- GREEN – Good signal strength
You may get internet even if the router shows the LED in blue color, but it only provides limited internet speed.
So, be sure to keep it on the spot showing a solid green signal.
Fresh restart your network
The effective method is to restart the modem. There is no restart option on the JioFi small wifi modem. Instead, long press the power button to switch it off. After 10 – 20 seconds, long press the power button. It’ll turn on and come in contact with the network.
Check the APN settings on the JioFi admin dashboard
The access point name ‘jionet‘ is the parameter that we should enter into the APN field on the access point settings. We already discussed how to set up the best Jio APN settings for high-speed internet in one of my previous posts.
Simply log in to the admin panel of the modem by entering the IP address http://jiofi.local.html at the address bar of the web browser after connecting the computer with the Jiofi wifi.
It’ll let you access the dashboard. you can use the default username and password as ‘administrator’ to get into the admin dashboard.
After login to the dashboard check if there is any issue with the access point name field. if it was wrongly given, correct it to jionet. Then restart the modem.
Limit the number of devices to be connected to the modem
JioFi wifi router allows you to connect up to 15 devices with it based on the model numbers. It’s better to limit the number of devices to be connected to 2 or 3 to get the maximum internet speed.
If there is no network issue, reset the device
It can be done Via the admin panel. Once you log in to the admin dashboard, you can see various functions that you can perform with your modem. Find the reset option on the right-corner menu bar. Select and proceed with all of the on-screen prompts to factory reset your device.
At the time of reset process is completed, you have to connect your mobile or computer to the modem with the provided SSID and password, specifically allocated for your device.
Contact Jio customer support for better network coverage
Sometimes, temporary network glitches can cause weak signals. These issues are often resolved by Jio technical experts within hours. However, if you experience weak signals for several days, contact Jio customer support or visit the nearest Jio support office to report the problem.
You need to tell them the exact area where you are residing so that they can check the towers near your area and diagnose the issue.
In some areas, they are sharing the towers with other network operators in the market, so you have to tell the proper area with the PIN code when complaining about your issue.
Possibly, they will fix the issue within hours.
Maintain battery charge
Battery health is crucial, especially for a router that receives signals from the air. If the battery charge is low, the router may not receive signals effectively, leading to issues with low signal strength.
It’s better to keep the battery charge level on the modem at a moderate level. Do not allow the battery to drain to an extremely low level, like below 20%, as this not only causes signal-receiving issues but also reduces the battery’s lifespan.
I have a pro tip for you if you are using any electronic gadgets. The battery charge level for electronic gadgets should be maintained between 20% and 80% to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
If your modem battery is depleted, turn off the device, plug in the charger, and charge it. After charging for one or two hours, turn it on and check if the problem is resolved.
How to prevent this from happening in the future?
The issue may be fixed by any one of the above-mentioned tips, but you can check all those tips when each time get the issue you can prevent the issue from happening in the future by upgrading the JioFi firmware.
I always prefer updating the firmware software whenever is new version is available. You can simply check the availability of the new version of firmware and update it through the admin panel address at https://jiofi.local.html.
Access the admin panel by the given address, and from the left side menu, find the settings option and get the firmware option to check the firmware is up to date.
If not, update it to the latest version. It’ll take a few minutes to install the latest updates.
What’s the benefit of updating the firmware?
It’ll improve the efficiency and durability of the device. And obviously, it’ll help your device to get rid of technical errors.
That’s all about fixing the RED light blinking issue.
Hope this helps you.
