In this post, I am going to explain how to prepare for the PSC examination in Kerala. This article will give an overview of how to get your dream job by preparing for that in disciplinary ways. If you follow my step-by-step guidance without demotivation, you’ll achieve your dream career in the Kerala government sector.
Tips for preparing for Kerala PSC exams
Know the Syllabus
All that we need to do as a basic is start studying by understanding the Syllabus for the exam you are appearing in. Studying general knowledge from here and there is like shooting in a dark space. Fortunately, the Public Service Commission has a unique syllabus for each of the examinations conducted by them for the employers.
The syllabus can be downloaded from their official website or you can see it on the notification. Here is my recommendation download the PDF format of the syllabus on your smartphone to know more closely about the portions. Only prepare for the exam by fine-tuning and understanding the syllabus.
There may be portions or areas where you can expect the questions for the exam. Classify them. For example, you can classify the portions like General knowledge, questions from Indian history, Kerala history, basic mathematics, etc.
Provide equal importance for all areas
If you are not the first time attending the examination, you’ll know the pattern of the examination. If 20 questions are from Indian history, 10 questions may be from basic mathematics, and so on.
You have to provide equal importance for all of the portions because we all need to attend all the areas to get the maximum score and get ahead of others.
In short, you should not skip one area among the provided areas in the syllabus because it’ll affect the whole score.
Give more time to study your weak subjects
You may be good at some subjects and need only less attention on that subject. And you may like to study your favorite subject more time.
BUT THIS IS NOT FOR EXAM AT YOUR SCHOOL OR COLLEGE.
This is an exam for getting your dream job. So to make the exam easy, you should more focus on the weak subjects. It’s better to give more time for weak subjects to improve.
In some exams, only 10 questions will ask for a specific subject like basic English, quantitative aptitude, etc. So allocate time for them too to get the score.
It is OK to have separate tuition for your weak subjects like mathematics and English if you are from a non-science stream at your higher secondary level of schoolo
Revision is important
One-time studying is not a favor for any exam. That’s why we always suggest revision is important in preparing for an examination, especially for competitive exams.
Revision is just what we are suffering what we studied so far. Since the PSC examinations are conducted as in the OMR model, there should be options that we have to find for answering the questions.
Having experience of writing hundreds of exams, I am saying that the options will confuse us. So should know the exact answer even not see the options given. So, we are sure that the answer to the question is from the given options.
To get the surety, revision is the only way. It helps to build confidence with the subjects.
Keep small notes while you traveling
It’s a good idea to keep a small note or a piece of paper folded in your pocket wherever you go. Find any portion from the syllabus and write some questions related to that on a paper. Read it whenever you get time while engaging in other things. This will surely help you to study more than you expected.
Answer previous years’ question papers
This is a gold mine. Answering previous years’ question papers will give you an overview of how to ask questions on examination.
This will help to understand the pattern of the exam. So, collect the previous question papers as much as you can and possibly write a mock test on each of the questions. Then check the answer you have written with the help of a guide or the internet. This also helps you with how you prepared for the exam so far.
Take mock tests
A hell lot of publishers prepare question papers for mock tests so that employers can write exams by themselves and then check their papers thereafter.
So, take mock tests. This could be carried out with the help of your friends preparing for the same examinations. Exchange your papers with your friends and evaluate them. Discuss the questions with friends in a genuine way.
By doing this, you will be thorough in questions and answers. There are educational publications available that contain mock-up test papers based on the syllabus. Attend the mockup test as many as possible check the answer sheet and evaluate what makes you mistakes for every question. This is called self-assessing.
By finding time for self-assessing, you will tell your brain the mistake and it will be there forever. So, when the exam comes and get the same question, you can answer those questions even without looking at the 4 given options.
Get Enough Sleep
Studying by sacrificing sleep is not a favor for your exam preparation. Get enough sleep all night. You should normally sleep 6 to 8 hours and eat healthy food. This will help you to build confidence and make your mind and body ready for the examination.
A good sleeping habit will improve your attention and focus efficiency. It reduces stress and anxiety. I saw many employees/students avoiding sleep to study more for their exam preparation. More than the best it will result in a negative impact on their physical and mental health.
Proper preparation, good sleeping habits, and healthy food are the ingredients to attend the exam without any fear. If needed, you can find a few times for meditation.
Final Note
Consistent preparation, understanding the syllabus, revising regularly, practicing previous years’ question papers, taking mock tests, focusing on weak subjects, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is crucial for excelling in Kerala PSC exams and securing your dream government job.
While getting a job in the Government sector, your life will be secure for a lifetime. So, when you spend a decent amount of time responsible for studying and following these success mantras, surely you’ll be a government employee shortly.
